Ruben Amorim hit out at his Manchester United players for becoming “too comfortable” after they surrendered a lead twice in a chaotic 3-3 draw with Tottenham.
United had been in control for long spells following Bryan Mbeumo’s first-half opener, but goals from Mathys Tel and Richarlison turned the game on its head before Matthijs de Ligt rescued a point with a 96th-minute header.
Despite the late equaliser extending United’s unbeaten run to five games, Amorim was frustrated by his team’s inconsistency.
“We have a lot of problems; we are just at the beginning,” he said. “The results show improvement, but we must be more aggressive. We were comfortable, and we shouldn’t be. Anything can change the game and the atmosphere — today proved that.”
There was also concern for Benjamin Sesko, who came off with a possible knee injury. “We think he has a problem but let’s see,” Amorim added.
Tottenham boss Thomas Frank defended his substitutions after some fans booed the decision to replace Xavi Simons with Tel in the 79th minute — a change that paid off when the young forward equalised minutes later.
“Every time I make a change, it’s to win the game,” Frank said. “Sometimes you get lucky, and today it worked.”
Spurs, who have not won at home since August, came close to ending that run, but Frank insisted the performance showed progress.
“We’re moving in the right direction. On another day, we win that game,” he said.
