Polish officials have reported that Russian military aircraft violated the safety perimeter surrounding a Baltic Sea oil platform. The Ministry of Defence described the incursion as hazardous and carried out without prior authorization, raising alarm over repeated Russian maneuvers near NATO territories.
NATO Responds to Estonian Airspace Violation
In a related event, NATO confirmed that Italian F-35 fighters intercepted Russian MiG-31 jets over Estonia near Vaindloo Island. The aircraft reportedly flew without submitting flight plans, had their transponders switched off, and failed to communicate with local air traffic authorities. Estonian officials condemned the act as a deliberate provocation and filed a formal protest with Moscow.
EU Introduces New Sanctions
The European Union labeled the incidents a serious threat to regional stability. In response, it launched its 19th sanctions package targeting Russian banks, military-linked companies, LNG exports, and cryptocurrency platforms. The package also includes a full ban on Russian LNG imports starting in January 2027, reflecting heightened European concern over Russia’s military activities in the Baltic region.
