French President Emmanuel Macron welcomed Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema to the Elysee Palace on Monday as the two leaders held talks aimed at strengthening political and economic ties between their countries.
The official visit focused on expanding cooperation across several sectors. French and Gabonese officials signed a number of agreements during the meeting, although authorities did not immediately release full details of all the documents.
The visit reflects continued efforts by both governments to deepen their long-standing partnership and promote new investment opportunities.
A major business announcement also took place during the visit. French mining and metals company Eramet signed a memorandum of understanding with the Gabonese government to expand local manganese processing.
Eramet operates manganese mines in Gabon through its subsidiary, Comilog. The company said the new agreement sets out an industrial roadmap designed to increase value-added production within Gabon rather than relying mainly on raw material exports.
The company also announced plans to support new industrial projects that could create additional employment opportunities and strengthen Gabon’s manufacturing sector.
Officials said expanding local mineral processing would help increase economic value inside the country while supporting long-term industrial development.
Before the visit, Gabonese presidency spokesperson Theophane Nzame-Nze Biyoghe said the meeting would allow both presidents to review progress made since Macron traveled to Libreville in November last year.
The discussions were expected to build on previous commitments made during that visit and identify new areas for cooperation in trade, investment, and economic development.
Political cooperation also formed an important part of the agenda. France and Gabon have maintained close diplomatic relations for many years, and both governments continue to work together on regional and international issues.
Economic development remains a shared priority as Gabon seeks to diversify its economy and attract greater foreign investment. French companies continue to play a significant role in several sectors, including mining, infrastructure, and energy.
The new memorandum involving Eramet reflects broader efforts by Gabon to move further into industrial processing and manufacturing. By increasing domestic production capacity, the government hopes to create more skilled jobs and strengthen local industries.
French officials have also expressed support for partnerships that encourage sustainable economic growth while expanding commercial ties between businesses in both countries.
The visit marks President Oligui Nguema’s second official trip to France since taking office. His meetings in Paris highlight the importance both governments place on maintaining regular political dialogue and expanding bilateral cooperation.
Although officials have not yet released complete details of every agreement signed during the visit, both sides described the discussions as productive and focused on future collaboration.
The latest agreements demonstrate continued efforts by France and Gabon to strengthen diplomatic relations while encouraging investment, industrial growth, and economic cooperation. As both countries move forward with the new commitments, attention will now turn to implementing the agreements and advancing the projects announced during the Paris meeting.
