Paris FC are exploring a potential coaching change as the French club considers former Morocco national team coach Walid Regragui as a possible replacement for Antoine Kombouaré. The move comes as uncertainty continues over Kombouaré’s long-term future at the club despite recent improvements in results under his leadership.
According to reports from L’Équipe, Paris FC officials have already held meetings with Regragui as part of early planning in case a managerial change is made. The club is assessing multiple candidates while discussions over Kombouaré’s contract situation remain unresolved. Although he is believed to be under contract until 2027, talks over an extension have not yet reached an agreement.
Paris FC have also reportedly spoken with other coaching candidates, including former Strasbourg and Chelsea assistant Liam Rosenior, while Bruno Genesio had previously been linked with the role. However, no final decision has been made, and the club is continuing to evaluate its options before committing to a long-term appointment.
Regragui, who left his role as Morocco head coach in March 2026, is said to have been positively impressed by the project presented by Paris FC. The 50-year-old coach has never managed in Ligue 1 before, meaning a move to Paris FC would mark his debut in France’s top division as a head coach.
Born in France, Regragui spent part of his playing career in French football with clubs such as Toulouse, Ajaccio, Dijon, and Grenoble. He later transitioned into coaching in Morocco, where he built a strong reputation through successful spells with FUS Rabat and Wydad Casablanca. His achievements included winning the Moroccan league title and the CAF Champions League with Wydad in 2022.
Regragui’s international profile rose significantly after he became Morocco’s head coach shortly before the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. He led the national team to a historic semifinal finish, making Morocco the first African and Arab nation to reach the last four of the tournament. Along the way, Morocco secured major wins over teams such as Belgium, Spain, and Portugal before being eliminated by France.
He later guided Morocco to the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, further strengthening his reputation as one of the most successful coaches in African football in recent years. His decision to step down in 2026 was described as a move to allow the team to rebuild with fresh leadership ahead of future competitions.
For Paris FC, the decision on Kombouaré’s future is expected soon as the club looks to finalize its direction for the coming seasons. Kombouaré joined the team in February and helped stabilize performances during the final stretch of the campaign, improving results and competitiveness.
Despite that progress, the club is weighing whether a new long-term vision requires a change in leadership. Regragui remains one of the leading candidates under consideration due to his international experience, tactical reputation, and success in high-pressure tournaments.
A final decision from Paris FC is expected in the coming days as discussions continue behind the scenes.
