Frank says Tottenham are still far from matching Arsenal’s £100m-level spending, despite recent structural changes at the club.
Following Daniel Levy’s removal as chair in September and the Lewis family’s appointment of a new leadership team, Spurs have outlined plans to grow the business and strengthen their sporting prospects. But Frank believes they are not yet at the stage where they can emulate Arsenal, who signalled their ambition by paying £105m for Declan Rice in 2023. Tottenham’s record signing remains Richarlison at £60m.
Asked about former manager Ange Postecoglou’s claim that Spurs would never spend £100m on a player, Frank was cautious. “In the next 50 years? Then yes,” he said. He stressed that building a top team requires time, strong processes and smart investment, but added: “I don’t think we are close to spending £100m, put it that way.”
Frank also argued that catching Arsenal does not rely solely on major spending. He highlighted the importance of developing existing players and making targeted investments in talent with high potential, pointing to Rice joining Arsenal at 24 as an example. He noted that clubs such as Liverpool and even Manchester City built success through a mix of development and selective spending, not by consistently paying huge transfer fees.
Spurs recently received a £100m injection from the Lewis family, with more expected to follow. Frank is confident the board will support him as he works to build a successful, long-term project at the club.
